Student Leadership - The Benedictines
Our Benedictine group follow the rules of Saint Benedict. They follow the rule of Benedict of Nursia. Benedict lived in the 6th century. He made some rules, called the Rule of St Benedict that we follow. The rules can be summed up by pax (peace) and ora et labora (pray and work). The Benedictine group live their lives with Christ at the Centre. They pray and work for others in our world. They lead prayer times, organise charitabale outreach and support the catholic life of the school.
Father Hudson Assembly - The Benedictines will be planning fundraising events throughout Lent.
3 of our Benedictines have been busy refilling the prayer ribbons on our prayer board.
Community Litter Pick
The Benedictines planned a Community Litter Pick inviting school, families and people of the Parish and Community. The Benedictines are following our Catholic Social Teaching of Stewardship and taking Care of God's Creation. The Litter Pick was a huge success and made our local area look clean and tidy. The Benedictines would now like to write to the Council to ask for more litter bins to be placed around the Community so that people can put their litter into the bins and take care of our local area and God's Creation.
Pope Francis - 'As Stewards for God's Creation, we are called to make the earth a beautiful garden for the human family.'
Carols at the Care Home
During Advent the Benedictines wanted to spread some Christmas Cheer with residents in the local care home - Oak Priory. They practised carols and wore their Santa hats. They were living out our Catholic Social Teaching of Human Dignity. The Benedictines felt that they were helping people who may feel alone this Christmas to feel the love and joy of Christ.
John 13:34-35
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Advent Homeless Appeal
During Advent the Benedictines linked with our Parish and collected items for the homeless. They were living out their Catholic Social Teachings of Option for the Poor and Participation. They spoke in assembly, sent letters and also spoke during Mass at the weekend to ensure that we could all work together on this project. The Benedictines organised the items into bags and then we delivered the bags to the Macari Centre for the homeless.
Isaiah Chapter 58
"If you give food to the hungry and satisfy those who are in need, then the darkness around you will turn to the brightness of noon."
